Willingness to Evolve Spiritually
Why can't I evolve into a more spiritual person? What's holding me back? Most of us have asked ourselves these questions at one time or another. We've all secretly wondered if it's an impossible feat that only the spiritually gifted people can accomplish.
The key to evolving spiritually is willingness. A simple, heart-felt conviction of willingness is all that's required. Anyone and everyone can have that willingness at any moment - which is all we ever have - one moment, or the present Now. Saying that you should have done it last year, last week, etc. or that you will try to do it in the future, but not now, is an indication that you aren't understanding the illusion of time. We don't live in the past or the future. We are Now. The time is always Now, and your willingness to be connected to all there is, all that is God or Spirit, is the critical portal into being Oneness, a divine spark of Spirit, if you will, and that's all you ever are. That's all, you ask? YES, that's all. You are Spirit, pretending to be a separate self, until, that is, you find your real self, which is the ultimate core essence of who you are.
So, do you have the capacity to consciously evolve? YES, absolutely! When you have that compulsion to find something bigger, deeper, higher, and infinitely more real than anything you have ever known, nothing will hinder your search. We are pulled by an invisible web - a web connecting the universe, and we are grasping to become that something which is at the deepest level of our being. We feel choicelessly compelled to reach for it, not knowing what that "it" is.
Keep grasping, don't give up, and as the Persian poet, Rumi has said, "don't go back to sleep". Who knows when you will pass this way again.
Don't go back to sleep
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don't go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don't go back to sleep.
- Rumi
"choicelessly compelled"!!
ReplyDeletethe paradox seems to be that once You enter the field of Now, You see that the "willingness" is inherent "Here"[there]
ReplyDeleteDoreen, yes, I agree. Once we enter the field of Now, instantly we have all we need; we become the Now, we are Love, we are Peace, we are Willingness, we are everything Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI noticed in your self "who am I" blurb you mention that you do not limit yourself to any one tradition and include Jesus in the mystics you draw inspiration from. Although I would probably classify myself as a Christian, it would not be your normal run of the mill Christian (aka Pat Robertson and his like) but Christianity and the Bible are the traditions I am the most familiar with. The Bible gets such a bad rap amongst "spiritual but not religious" folk. I think it is because they (along with the fundies) take it literally as written rather than something that has to be illuminated by the spirit. It is also a pretty good analogy of what goes on in our individual journeys as we grope along trying to find within us the mind "that was also in Christ Jesus" The Bible is the candid tale of mankind's search for God. Can God be found in scripture. Oh yes, I believe he can...and many times the prophets did get it right and their words portray a true and accurate picture of God. And we have Jesus and his teachings in the gospels which clearly show us the Father. So, being from the Christian tradition (but having never been an evangelical) when I read spiritual posts, scripture often comes to mind. When I read this post I was reminded of the verse that speaks of God being the instigating force behind making us willing.
ReplyDeletefor it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.
and what is his good purpose? That we all come into the realization of "the Christ in you, the hope of glory" and learn to live out of that nature. The Stillnes, the Presence, the I AM...the light that lights every man that comes into the world.....
Cindi....
Hi Cindi,
ReplyDeleteI think the main reason for the "spiritual" folk to not follow any one religion is purely that the religions of the world have divided the family of mankind. It is religions, as well as the dysfunctional ego in each of us, that has created separation and unspeakable suffering. Think of the Spanish Inquisition for example. When one follows a traditional religion one has to pick out the more fundamental and radical types and dis-associate with them. Within Christianity, itself, there are so many denominations under that one label that it is impossible to tell what is actually meant when one defines oneself as a Christian. I always thought, as a child, that churches were supposed to bring people together rather than separate. And separate they do, whether people want to believe that or not. The technicalities of beliefs are absurd. If my mother, had remained a Methodist, then the Catholic Church (at that time) would tell her that she might not "make it to heaven", or she would not be able to raise her children "in the one, true religion". One cannot fail but see the absurdity in these beliefs, especially through a child's eyes. Old beliefs or new.
